Karnak Shriners received its dispensation on October 20, 1899, and its Charter on May 23, 1900. Headquartered in Dollard des Ormeaux, on the Island of Montreal, the Shrine Centre serves Eastern Ontario and the Province of Quebec with Shrine Clubs located in Cornwall, Ontario, and in Quebec from East to West in the Gaspé, Trois-Rivières, the Eastern Townships, Hemmingford, Montreal, Lachute and Hudson.
Our Shrine Centre installs its Potentate and Divan on the second Saturday in January, and most of the club and unit executives in the weeks that follow. The Potentate’s Ball and Weekend are usually held in the month of May and this often coincides with a Spring Ceremonial for the initiation of new candidates. A Fall Ceremonial, Feztival of Trees, Volunteer Appreciation Night, and Potentate’s Christmas Party rounds out the last half of the year.
In between our clubs and units hold various fundraising events, including breakfasts, steak & seafood nights, dances, comedy nights, and other fundraisers for the shrine centre and our philanthropy the Shriners Hospital for Children Canada.
Our nobles also have a great deal of fun in parades including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Canada Day Parade, and Santa Claus Parade in various cities and towns throughout our jurisdiction. When they are not fundraising or parading, many of our dedicated nobles regularly pick up patients and their parents at the airport to be transported to either their hotel or to the Shriners Hospital of Children – Canada for their appointments.
