Keystone Kops
Abou Ben Adhem Shriners
Springfield, Missouri
Founded in 1992, the Keystone Kops is a lively parade unit of the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners in Springfield, Missouri. Dressed in either prisoner stripes or officer uniforms, the 25 members playfully spray each other with water guns (refilling often from the water tanks on their trailer), reminiscent of the whimsical Keystone Kops films of the early 1900s. They actively engage with spectators, especially young children, by inviting them to join in the fun of spraying other nobles. Plus, rubber bracelets or seasonal-themed items are handed out to kids. This interaction not only delights kids but also appeals to their parents, encouraging family involvement in the festivities. The unit tries to attend every parade in the Springfield area, and they’ve amassed a following of spectators eager to participate each time. The Keystone Kops hold several fundraising events throughout the year.
