Many of us are not in the corporate world. So many of us are just simple Masons, simple Nobles. Now, let's discuss further. You can see on page nine of the slides. We also have a difference of work organization in coaching compared to coaching in volunteer organizations. Now, this is where it gets most more fun. You can do coaching at work, and you can do coaching as a volunteer. And since you are Shriners, we are volunteers. Now where organization's structure it's often part of a structured HR, human resource or leadership development program. Remember, our introduction for this presentation is that coaching is steadily replacing the performance review. Therefore, it's an integral part of a corporation of human resource and learning development department to have coaching. It's there. Now, in a volunteer organization such as Shriners, it may be more ad hoc, so we rely on volunteers or staff with coaching skills.
What's good with this is that this seminar was made initially to provide you with coaching skills. We'll give you foundational models, we'll give you strategies on which to become a better coach. Now, volunteer organizations. Some shrine temples are different from others. Some shrine temples have a more unique culture than others. Remember, Nobles – It is diversity that makes us strong. It is diversity that makes us unique and it is diversity on which we can unify with a single identity as Nobles. So, a tradition of one temple might not be effective on another temple. The way people talk and discuss coaching on one temple might be different from the other. It's this essence of diverse and freedom to each potentate that you can program your own temple coaching program that fits the needs of your specific temple. Now, let's do goals for our organizations.
It's tied to the specific job role. Operations will focus on efficiency. Finance will focus on balancing the numbers. Human resources will focus on manpower and on employee satisfaction. Now, those work titles have their specific metrics and organizational objectives. It's all written on paper. Now, for volunteer organization, it depends. It can range from personal development to be a better man than you were yesterday, or organizational effectiveness. Some Nobles are tapped in order to improve membership. Some Nobles are involved in charity programs. This is as diverse as the temple gets. And for each type of rule, we have our own specific performance metrics on which we can coach the coaches.
Participation. Now, for organization, it's aligned. Coaching is aligned with corporate policies. It's a mandatory in a professional environment, so it does not mean that performance reviews are being phased out. Employees are no longer assessed by the human resources. We still are, but they use coaching as a more modern and progressive way to assess their employees.
Now, for volunteer organizations, individuals may choose to participate based on personal interests. Now remember, we are a volunteer organization. Therefore, a Noble can be active today, inactive tomorrow, and active the next day. Such is the importance of coaching. If you will coach a Noble, make sure that you make him feel safe. It's a safe space, and you are there to empathetically listen. We listen to understand. Remember, great architect give us two ears so that we may listen more and talk less. And once we talk, we do not dictate. We guide our coachee. We help him experience his enlightenment to achieve his goals. Now, for the training. Coaches may be paid professionals or internal employees in our environment, but in a volunteer organization such as this one. So we volunteer on our free time. I volunteer my time in order to help the nobles to be better coaches. The thing is, for work environments, for corporations coaching you, even coaching has its specific standards.
Now, for the Shiners, since we do not yet have our own doctrine for coaching, it's up to the Potentates to develop coaching standards for each temple. It's up to the officers to determine what are the qualifications and how to maintain quality of coaches. The training you are here, this seminar is the foundational training on which we can become better coaches. Next is the focus. Now for work, we focus on skill development, performance improvement and career advancement. Straight to the point. Now, for volunteer organizations, our focus can vary widely. It includes leadership development for our Divans. It can involve in building for the new Nobles and for the Nobles who are getting in their years and not getting bored, and of course, personal growth. So we are focused on our charity and philanthropy. Part of our charity is not just for the children, but for our fellow Nobles. We help them become better Nobles.
